Summer Solstice Celebrations.

Tomorrow is Summer Solstice 2023. The wheel of the year turns, and we arrive at the longest day of the year. This day is celebrated in various ways by people all over the northern hemisphere; while the festivities vary from place to place, all are marked by the joy of living, and a sense of awe at our connection, both individually and as groups, with the enduring power of Nature.

Crowds gather to greet the dawn of Summer Solstice at Stonehenge.

For many pagans the day is known as Litha, a celebration of the sunlight as it reaches it's height on the longest day the year. The god Lugh, the Bringer of Light, strides across the land.

In Ireland they still roll burning wooden wheels downhill into water, and light bonfires on the Hill of Tara and nearby New Grange.

Midsommar in Sweden is fun and a lot more family-friendly than is depicted in the movie of the same name.

Young Ukrainians jump over a bonfire.

As with Winter Solstice, many very old pagan customs have been incorporated into modern celebrations. For many people these customs are a cherished part of their cultural heritage and greatly enjoyed as such. Bonfires, music, dancing and feasting never fall out of fashion.

For all who celebrate it I wish you a happy and blessed Summer Solstice.

Thank you for reading, it's always appreciated. This is an open thread, all topics are welcome.
