A Poem For Samhain.

The veil between the worlds is very thin now. Ancestors wave to us; we can feel them reach out to us across space and time. Friends and loved ones who have gone before us draw near, if only for a little while.

My paternal grandparents, back when they were teenagers.

 ~ Sit With Me A While ~

Threads of incense rising

Copal and sandalwood perfume the air.

My altar is decorated this night

Flowers and photographs, a brooch, a letter from a long ago war.

Bright feathers and an old faded dog collar.

A tiny gold baby bracelet in my hand.

Light a candle, say a prayer

Look into the obsidian

My self is reflected there.

They gaze through my eyes back at me.

To some I will say, Oh how I have missed you. Your voice, your smile, your stories.

To others, I hope you are at peace now. Let there be peace between us.

And to others, You left so soon. After all these years there's still a hole in my heart.

Sit with me a while.

So many of you have gone before me. I'm lonely sometimes.

There's so much to share. So much to tell, so much to hear.

Sit with me a while.

It's been hard, I could use some encouragement.

Look how far I've come. I'm proud of that, hope you are too.

There's wine and whisky and tea and chocolate.

Sit with me a while.

One day it will be my turn

I hope you'll be there to welcome me.

Someday I will join you.

I love you. I miss you. And I remember.

Please sit with me a while.

Me, a couple of weeks ago. My first walk along our road in nearly six months.

To all who celebrate, a beautiful and blessed Samhain.

Thank you for reading. This is an open thread, all topics are welcome.
