For most people, the image that first comes to mind regarding ancient Egypt is the pyramid. The pyramids were, of course, the burial tombs for Egyptian royalty and are symbols for ancient Egyptian beliefs regarding death, including the possibility of life after death. Bob Brier and Hoyt Hobbs, in their book Ancient Egypt: Everyday Life in the Land of the Nile, write:
“No civilization ever invested more faith, energy or money in attaining life after death than ancient Egypt.”↧
