Tarot Minor Arcana: Court Cards: the Pages.

Today I'll discuss the Pages of the tarot. These cards can represent a child or young adult, male or female, who is probably known to the querent. They can also represent an aspect of the querent themself. The Pages usually depict a cheerful and energetic young person holding the symbol of their suit. In some tarot decks the Pages are named differently; in the DruidCraft deck they are Princesses. A few tarot readers interpret the Pages as representing gay people, however that is not my practice. A Page may represent a circumstance rather than a person, often a message regarding something of interest to the querent. The position of the card in the layout and the nature of surrounding cards can help clarify whether the Page represents a person or not.

The Pages are full of youthful energy and exuberance, curiosity and exploration, and occasionally heedless overconfidence. They have something to say and are not at all shy about saying it.

The Page of Pentacles can represent a favorable communication regarding the querent's money, business, or property. When it represents the querent or another adult, that person tends to spend carefully while enjoying a pleasant, comfortable home, and prefer high quality clothes and furnishings over the latest fashion trends. It may represent a young person who is learning about finances and/or getting and keeping employment; they might benefit from the kind of guidance which the querent can offer. It can represent the querent's strong, conscientious attention to the task at hand, whatever it may be.

Reversed, this card may indicate delays or misunderstandings in business negotiations, a sense of financial insecurity, or a need to be mindful of one's spending habits. If it's a young person they may have unrealistic expectations about what they or their family can afford.

The Page of Swords can represent a situation in which intellect rather than emotion is called for; any communications should be clear and based on facts rather than opinions or hearsay whenever possible. When it represents the querent or another adult that person tends to be analytical, a careful planner and strategist who recognizes the value of patience when thinking long-term. They may have a reputation for being unemotional, which may or may not be deserved. If it represents a young person, they may be somewhat of a loner. It can represent a young person or the querent saying what needs to said, followed by decisive action.

Reversed, this card may indicate excessive force, even combative behavior. Communications may be better left unsaid, at least until calm and a sense of perspective return. The querent may be prone to sarcasm, hostility, and anger which if left unchecked could have potentially serious consequences. If it's a young person, they are probably rather mouthy and lacking self-control.

The Page of Wands is a very energetic and creative card; when it represents a message, it's likely to be good news for an existing project or venture, or mark the beginning of an exciting new project. If it represents a situation, an interesting and even fun opportunity to learn or do something new (often an idea or field which they've been considering for a while) may arise. Travel may be involved, or a change of location. When representing a person of any age, that person tends to have an adventurous, creative, and enthusiastic personality.

Reversed, this card may represent bad news or a setback which is taken very hard by the querent. It can represent overly hasty, rash actions that themselves bring about a setback. Unrealistic expectations for instant results and/or a cranky, demanding attitude could be making a challenging situation worse. This can result in a loss of self esteem, particularly for a young person.

The Page of Cups often represents a person or relationship of positive, loving significance to the querent. It can represent a happy call or note, a social invitation, or love letter. When this card represents an adult, that person tends to be warm hearted, friendly and generous, and is often the center of a close group of friends. If it represents a young person, they tend to have a sensitive and emotional nature; making friends may sometimes be hindered by shyness. This Page may also indicate messages from one's subconscious such as important or prophetic dreams, or sudden flashes of insight.

Reversed, this card may indicate quarrels between loved ones which, if not addressed promptly, may blow up into something worse. It can indicate an underlying incompatibility being ignored by one or both persons, or an unhealthy obsessive attachment. Alternatively, the message may be one of slowing down a bit in relationships and/or social life; allow for some time alone.
