In mid-March I had the desire to paint again. The goat skull we'd recently found is still soaking in hydrogen peroxide out in the carport. And it may be a while before it's clean enough to paint on. So I dug out my canvas panels, which I haven't used in months.

I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to paint. Only that I felt like doing something different, and having fun. I deliberately chose colors that I seldom work with. And a watery, splattering technique I've admired but never attempted.

I set it aside for the better part of a day while I considered what to do next. After that, the image seemed to paint itself.

All I really knew was that I wanted to use plain flat black. So I dipped my brush, and started painting. When it was done I knew right away. This particular painting happened very fast, just a couple of days.

I also knew right away what I wanted to do with it. And how to name it. I named it for the ancient Irish threefold goddess known as The Morrigan. Whose sacred animal is the raven. It hangs above my little altar now. A Goddess image I created for myself.
